Save The Drama… (part 1)

We interrupt our regular feature to bring you something slightly different – this week is a trial for an idea I was toying with to provide new content during the weekends. If it proves to be interesting, “Sketchbook Sundays” would be a glimpse into whatever passes for my creative process. So for this week only, I’ve gathered a few pages from various sources showing some of the doodles and designs which spring from my diseased mind when I’m not specifically drawing comic strips.

If this is of no interest to you then I can only apologise, and ask you to stick with me until next week when the strip will be back to normal. I’ll be happy to hear any comments, especially if you’d be interested in seeing Sketchbook Sunday become a regular thing.

Apparently I have a thing for vehicle designs which don’t translate well into three dimensions. The Rhombeus is pretty difficult to work out from any angle apart from its profile, and now here are the B.A.R.R.I.C.A.D.E Barracudas. The side view can be seen in full here, and in today’s strip we see one from above. Perhaps I’ll put together some schematic diagrams. I am a nerd.
If anybody feels like making a 3D model of either the Rhombeus or a Barracuda based on what I’ve already drawn, please take a picture. I’d be interested to see how successfully you manage it. Email any attempts to mr_french(at)leagueofevilgenius(dot)com and I’ll happily display them here. I might even offer prizes to the best/most interesting…

After all the behind-the-scenes commotion of getting the site back up and running, I’ve ended up pretty much taking a week off. This has thrown my schedule completely out and means that there isn’t a full complement of strips this week. In order to distract you from that fact, today’s strip is in (nearly) full colour. Insert appropriately sarcastic “oohs” and “aahs” here. It also includes a ham-fisted bit of comic strip referencing/plagiarism which should be relatively easy to work out. For the record, there’s no comparison being made (I wouldn’t dare or dream of putting myself anywhere near that level), I just thought it was a fun image.

Thank you all again for the kind and thoughtful comments since the site went down. Expect normal service to resume from Monday.

If you’re reading this, thank you for bearing with me. You may or may not be aware that between Christmas and the New Year the site was hacked, which led to a complete removal of all content and a new installation of everything from the ground up. If I’m honest, it also led to a serious dent in my enthusiasm for continuing the strip at all. Thankfully I got over it and got on with it. It’s been a learning experience if nothing else.
The last week or so has been spent recovering, and it’s probably pretty obvious that I’m not completely up and running yet. Some things are still missing and I’m behind schedule, and it’s that which is driving me mad at the moment. I hate missing deadlines and it’s only happened once before. Unfortunately that’s been unavoidable but it will be remedied shortly.
For what it’s worth I had strips prepared up to last Friday, so they’re now available, and the entire archive is back where it belongs (although having been forced to face those early strips again I can’t personally recommend reading them – ugh).
I know the whole situation will have lost me a sizeable chunk of my already pretty meagre readership, but if you’ve hung on in there you have my eternal gratitude. I will find a way to live up to your loyalty.
Happy New Year!
